Notes:
- The Hybrid Kordesii is a class of roses dating back to its development in Germany in the 1940s. It was developed by W. Kordes’ Sons which is a German rose breeding company dating back to the late 1800s. They were looking for a hardy climbing rose that would be a repeat bloomer. Kordes Nursery is still in business today as one of the world’s leading producers of roses. --- (Wikipedia “W. Kordes' Söhne” 2/27/2021)
- The Canadian plant geneticist, Felicitas Svedja developed several species for the northern climate at the Canadian Department of Agriculture. His roses were called the Explorer series and they were named after Northern explorers like Williiam Baffin and John Davis. --- (Brenner and Scanniello, A Rose by Any Name, page 49).
- William Baffin, the explorer, was an English navigator and explorer. He is primarily known for his attempt to discover a Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific, during the course of which he was the first European to discover Baffin Bay. --- (Wikipedia “William Baffin” retrieved 2/27/2021)
